At The Moorings and Sunsail, we plan and deliver fantastic yacht charters across the world. We have an abiding passion for sailing, taking yachting holidays to the next level across the most spectacular destinations worldwide which keep our customers coming back again and again!

The secret to our success within the yacht industry lies in our exceptional teams, we are united by the same purpose, to have fun while creating extraordinary experiences on the water.

    Role Overview

We are looking to hire a Yachts Compliance Manager to join our team! Reporting to the Head of Central Operations, you’ll own compliance for our full fleet of charter yachts in the British Virgin Islands by ensuring every yacht is properly registered, licensed and certified under Virgin Islands law and the requirements of the Virgin Islands Shipping and Maritime Authority (VISMA). Working closely with Government officials, you will keep every license and certificate current, and manage all related invoicing, so our yachts are always legal, insured and ready to charter.

    What you’ll do:

    • Licensing and certification: Obtain, renew and keep up to date all licenses and certificates for every yacht in the BVI fleet, including:

    • Vessel registration

    • Commercial Recreational Vessel License

    • Small Commercial Vessel Certificate

    • Registration Exemption Certificate

    • Temporary Import Licenses

    • Fishing licenses

    • Radio licenses

    • Government relations: Act as the main point of contact with Government officials and bodies, including VISMA, HM Customs and other licensing departments. Build strong working relationships and work through their processes to get approvals on time

    • Laws and regulations: Stay current on marine compliance law in the Virgin Islands and VISMA requirements. Share changes with the base and Central Operations teams and update our processes to match

    • Foreign-flagged yachts: Understand the operating requirements of foreign flags and make sure foreign-flagged yachts in the fleet meet both their flag rules and local BVI rules

    • Invoicing: Own all invoicing matters for the role, including license and certificate fees, Government charges and recharges, making sure invoices are accurate, paid on time and correctly recorded

    • Deadlines and tracking: Keep a fleet-wide compliance tracker showing every license, certificate and expiry date. Plan renewals well ahead of time so no yacht is ever out of compliance

    • New yachts and fleet changes: Make sure new yachts arriving in the fleet, and yachts leaving it, have the correct registrations, import licenses and paperwork in place before they sail or depart

    • Records and audits: Keep complete, organized records that are ready for inspections, audits and owner or management requests

    • Teamwork: Work closely with the base, technical, fleet, finance and owner care teams to resolve compliance issues quickly and keep charters running smoothly

    What you’ll bring:

    • Experience: 5+ years in marine compliance, vessel registration, yacht management or a similar role, ideally in the charter or commercial yachting industry

    • Local knowledge: Strong working knowledge of marine compliance laws in the Virgin Islands and the requirements of VISMA

    • Vessel Flagging and Registration: Understanding of foreign flags (such as Red Ensign and other common charter flags) and their operating requirements

    • Government liaison: Proven ability to work with Government officials and departments, follow their processes and get results

    • Invoicing and admin: Experience with invoicing and basic financial administration, with strong attention to detail

    • Works well under pressure: Able to manage many deadlines at once, stay calm when timelines are tight and deliver on time, every time

    • Organization: Excellent record-keeping and planning skills; confident using Microsoft Excel, Outlook and tracking tools

    • Communication: Clear, professional written and spoken communication with Government, colleagues and yacht owners

    • Eligibility: Must be legally able to work in the British Virgin Islands

We believe people perform best when they can be their true selves and diverse teams drive better results. We’re committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where everyone can succeed.
