Quark Expeditions is the world leader in polar expedition travel. Headquartered in Toronto, we operate transformative voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic, including Greenland, Northern Canada, and Svalbard, aboard three state‑of‑the‑art expedition vessels: Ultramarine, Ocean Explorer, and World Explorer.

Since 1991, Quark has pioneered many of the industry’s greatest firsts, from the first commercial transit of the Northeast Passage to the first circumnavigation of Antarctica with guests. Today, we continue to push boundaries as part of Travelopia, the world’s leading experiential travel group backed by KKR.

We’re excited to welcome a Senior Manager of Safety and Risk. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, this role leads organisation‑wide safety, risk and incident management, partnering closely with Marine, Aviation, Expedition and Ground Services teams to support safe, effective operations. You’ll drive the development and continuous improvement of health, safety and risk practices across office, shoreside and field environments, ensuring the safety of both employees and guests.

    What We Offer

    • Base salary of CAD $110,000.00 to $144,000.00 per year
    • Annual performance-based bonus (5% target, up to 10% maximum)
    • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision
    • Retirement savings plan with company contributions
    • Generous paid time off
    • Flexible hybrid working pattern

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead and evolve Quark Expeditions’ global safety and risk framework, setting the annual safety agenda and embedding a strong, safety‑first culture across ship‑based and shoreside teams.
    • Work closely with Expedition, Marine and Aviation teams to deliver joined‑up safety governance across complex, high‑risk operations, including regular vessel visits and close collaboration with third‑party technical partners.
    • Ensure safety standards are practical and lived, overseeing SOPs, Emergency Response Plans and training for safety‑critical roles, and supporting teams to operate confidently and compliantly.
    • Own incident, near‑miss and emergency management, leading investigations, simulations and readiness testing, and playing a key role in live incident response and 24/7 emergency cover.
    • Drive continuous improvement through insight and assurance, overseeing audits, third‑party oversight and trend analysis, and sharing clear, meaningful safety insights with senior leadership and group stakeholders.
    • Partner with Legal, Insurance and Travelopia H&S leaders on claims, investigations, risk mitigation and group governance, sharing learning and aligning standards across the wider business.

    What You’ll Bring

    • Experience working in complex, safety‑critical operational environments (e.g. maritime, aviation, expedition, offshore or similar).
    • A credible, influential leader with experience guiding teams and partners through high‑risk operations and incident response.
    • Comfortable operating in a global, fast‑moving environment, working across cultures, time zones (GMT/EST) and travelling regularly.
    • Strong judgement and attention to detail, with experience handling sensitive, regulatory and confidential matters.
    • Experience working within ISM‑compliant Safety Management Systems and holding relevant safety or assurance qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, ISO Lead Auditor or equivalent).
    • Experience in expedition cruising, polar operations or helicopter operations in remote environments is highly valued.

We believe people perform best when they can be their true selves and diverse teams drive better results. We’re committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where everyone can succeed.
