A crewed yacht charter offers an all-inclusive escape, combining the luxury of a private villa with the adventure of life at sea. Guests enjoy the expertise of a professional captain and the culinary creativity of a dedicated chef, with larger yachts offering additional service from a steward for an elevated experience.
During each charter, the captain ensures the safety of guests and crew, while the chef manages provisioning and prepares tailored meals. Together, the crew maintains seamless operations and exceptional service standards. Outside of charters, the vessel must be kept in top condition to ensure readiness.
This role requires flexibility, including varied hours and occasional back-to-back charters. During quieter periods, duties may include vessel support, guest services, and participation in operational activities.
Please note this is a live-aboard position, with one double cabin provided for the captain and chef to share.
Captain Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests throughout the duration of the charter.
Take full responsibility for the safe piloting, navigation, anchoring, and overall operation of the yacht at all times.
Maintain all technical and operational aspects of the yacht—including onboard systems, equipment, and the dinghy—to The Moorings’ standards. This includes conducting regular maintenance checks and services as instructed by the Technical Manager.
Maintain an up-to-date logbook, accurately recording engine hours, passages, and mileage, and submit regular reports to the Technical Manager.
Keep detailed and accurate accounting records, ensuring all expenditures remain within the charter budget.
Communicate with guests prior to the charter using the company-provided email account to establish rapport and coordinate details.
Greet guests upon arrival, assist with boarding, and deliver a comprehensive briefing covering yacht orientation, safety procedures, and the location of all safety equipment.
Act as host for the charter party, organizing activities, excursions, and offering local insights and recommendations throughout the trip.
Provide basic instruction and supervision for onboard activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding.
Safely operate and supervise water sports from the tender, including knee boarding, tubing, and waterskiing.
Prepare and serve a selection of cocktails and beverages to improve the guest experience.
Ensure the yacht is clean and presentable before each charter and maintained to a high standard throughout.
Report any incidents promptly to the manager—initially verbally, followed by a detailed written report.
Carry out any additional duties as assigned by the manager.
Chef Responsibilities
Plan and provision a menu tailored to each charter, ensuring alignment with guests’ preference sheets. All meals should be thoughtfully prepared and attractively presented.
Maintain daily housekeeping of all guest areas to The Moorings' standards.
Communicate with guests prior to the charter via the company-provided email account to confirm preferences and improve the guest experience.
Keep accurate accounting records and ensure all provisioning remains within the agreed charter budget.
Ensure a selection of snacks is available throughout the day for guests to enjoy at their convenience.
Keep the galley and all kitchen equipment clean, organized, and hygienic always, with detailed cleaning after each meal.
Prepare guest cabins with fresh linens before the charter begins and perform a mid-week linen change during the trip.
Assist in cleaning and maintaining the yacht both before and during the charter.
Act as a warm and welcoming host for guests, organizing activities, excursions, and sharing local insights as required.
Support guest safety throughout the charter.
Assist the captain with basic instruction and supervision of water sports, including snorkeling and paddle boarding.
Support the captain with general deck duties as needed.
Perform any other duties as advised by the manager.
